Care Guide

Get the most out of your Last Pan

The right technique is the difference between frustration and perfect results. Everything you need to know, step by step.

First use

Using your Last Pan for the first time

Follow these 5 steps for a perfect start.

Preparation

Wash the pan with warm water and mild dish soap. Dry completely. This removes any manufacturing residue from the factory.

Low to medium heat

Heat the pan on low to medium heat. Let it warm up gradually for 2–3 minutes. Never on high heat.

Avocado oil recommended

Add a tablespoon of avocado oil. Spread evenly across the bottom and sides using a paper towel.

Heat for 2 minutes

Heat for 2 minutes on low to medium heat until the oil just begins to shimmer.

This is not seasoning like cast iron. Titanium does not build up a permanent fat layer.

Ready to use

Let cool. Wipe away any excess oil. Your pan is ready to use.

Every time you cook: adding oil is always necessary.

The golden rule

The water drop test

Never add food to a cold pan. The water test tells you exactly when the pan is ready.

Too cold
Water spreads out and evaporates slowly
Wait 30 seconds
Perfect
Water beads up and dances around the pan
Add oil now
Too hot
Water evaporates instantly with aggressive sizzling
Lower the heat
The right oil

~520°F
Smoke point
Avocado oil
Last Pan favorite

The highest smoke point of any cooking oil. Neutral flavor, stable at high temperatures. Ideal for the first seasoning coat, everyday cooking, and searing.

350–485°F
Smoke point
Butter / Ghee
Flavorful choice

Ghee (~485°F) is versatile and stable. Regular butter (~350°F) only on low heat. Both add rich flavor.

375–400°F
Smoke point
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Everyday use

Great for everyday cooking on low to medium heat. Not for high heat. Perfect for vegetables, fish, and sauces.

420–450°F
Smoke point
Rice bran / Grapeseed oil
Budget alternative

High smoke point, neutral flavor. Great for everyday cooking and the first oil coat.

~450°F
Smoke point
Vegetable / Sunflower oil
Not recommended

When heated, it forms a sticky, resin-like buildup on the titanium. Never use it for the initial oil coat.

N/A
Smoke point
Cooking spray (aerosol)
Never use

The propellants and additives leave a sticky residue on the titanium surface. Always use regular oil from a bottle.

Troubleshooter

What's the problem?

Select your issue and get an instant solution.

Pan not hot enough or too little oil

Do the water drop test: wait until the droplet beads and dances. Add oil across the entire bottom and wait 20 seconds before adding food.

Eggs need low heat and plenty of fat

Low heat, a generous knob of butter or 2 tablespoons of oil. Wait until the fat is shimmering, add the eggs, and don't touch them for 2 minutes.

Burnt oil residue, not the pan itself

Scrub off with steel wool. Re-coat with avocado oil before your next cook.

Full reset needed: heat too high or oil residue

Full reset: scrub with steel wool, rinse clean, re-coat with avocado oil. Lower your heat and make sure the entire bottom is covered with oil.

Cleaning & care

Cleaning your pan

Titanium is easy to clean and virtually indestructible.

1
Let it cool
Wait 5–10 minutes. Never pour cold water on a hot pan.
2
Warm water + dish soap
Rinse with warm water and mild dish soap.
3
Steel wool is fine
For stubborn residue, steel wool is perfectly safe. There is no coating that can be damaged.
4
Dry completely
Dry immediately after washing. Water droplets can leave spots.
5
Optional: thin layer of oil
Apply a thin layer of avocado oil and heat for 1–2 minutes on low.
Stubborn burnt-on residue? Reset method:
Add water and a teaspoon of baking soda to the pan. Bring to a boil, let it simmer for 4 minutes. Let cool, wipe clean. Re-coat with avocado oil and heat briefly on low.
